Career Makeover Programme
This programme has been developed to support Parents returning to work after taking time out to start a family, someone seeking to change their career path or Students post A Levels/Degree who cannot decide on a career to pursue. It has been designed as a complete package so you know exactly what it involves.
This programme has been based on work I have done with Parents (Mothers) of young children wanting to return to work, but not to their original careers. Therefore it is based on techniques that really work. It is set out in session plans so that is clear what it you can achieve by following it with me.
During each coaching session we will evaluate where you have got to and what you need to do next to explore and evaluate you options so that you can be confident that your final options/choices are realistic and will fit with the life you want. You will be challenged to take a long hard look at your life and where you want to go. I will help you assess what it is you really want and how you are going to achieve it.
This is the core programme that we can work through together. However, should you decide that you need more support this can be organised as optional extras.
Initial Meeting – 30 mins.
I will take the time to get to know you and you aspirations. This will include discussing your thoughts on what you want to achieve.
I will give you a questionnaire to do before our first coaching session based on getting to know your core values. Your core values are those things in your life that are most important to you and which drive your choices. Values include such things as honesty, integrity, creativity, being adventurous and family.
There is a wide choice to truly reflect you.
Session 1
Getting to grips with what is really important to you – your core values.
Together we will evaluate your responses to the questionnaire, going deeper into your reasons for individual responses. We will look at what your responses mean in real life and what career choices this might mean.
Research:
Before the next meeting I will ask you to brainstorm careers that you think might fit with your values.
Session 2
Together we will evaluate your ideas in relation to core values. This will go deeper into your reasons for making these choices and narrow down your options. It might also add different options.
Research:
I will ask you to do some further research on your possible choices so far. This might include researching job profiles and searching on the internet for additional information on the requirements of the careers that you have identified.
Session 3
I will help you to evaluate each idea that you have researched to see how they fit with your values and assess the viability of the careers you have selected. At the end of this session you should have a short list of possible careers to research further.
Research:
At this stage you will need to become more specific in your research to get a handle on the reality of the career(s) that you are considering. This might mean searching for specific job profiles, finding work experience or volunteer opportunities or talking to someone who is already doing the job you would love to do. This will help you with your action plan
Session 4
In this session I will help you to plan your next steps. It is important to have a realistic plan to follow so that you get to your goal of a career that suits you and what is important to you. We will set it out in achievable steps with a realistic time scale. I will also help you to think through strategies to avoid the things that might stop you working through your action plan. If you want me to I will contact you occasionally to check on how you are getting along.
Optional extras include:
• Regular coaching as you work through you action plan
• Occasional coaching as you start your new job
